Welcome to Troop 589’s Philmont Packing Guide

Troop 589, based in Victoria, Minnesota, regularly participates in all four BSA High Adventure bases - Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Summit Bechtel Reserve - on a rotating schedule. Every other year, we head to Philmont and Northern Tier, and the following year to Sea Base and Summit. In 2025, Troop 589 will once again be sending two crews to Philmont.

This site is a collection of recommendations and packing advice gathered from years of high adventure experience. While designed primarily for Troop 589 scouts and families, it’s also a resource for the wider Scouting community. Many other troops have asked for advice from our experienced leadership - and now, we’re sharing it here to help all scouts be better prepared for the adventure of a lifetime.
